What are Neuromodulators?
Neuromodulators such as BOTOX COSMETIC® and XEOMIN® temporarily inhibit muscle action when injected into facial muscles. This decreases the appearance of wrinkles such as crows feet, worry lines, bunny lines and laugh lines. Neuromodulators can also be used for successful treatment and reduction of severe headaches and chronic migraines.
How long do Neuromodulators last?
The full results of your treatment can take up to 14 days although you will start to see results within a few days after the treatment. Touch ups may be required 2-3 weeks after and your results may last 3-4 months. Depending on how quickly the muscle metabolizes the neuromodulator you may need to come 2-4 times a year to retain the results; long term use of neuromodulators leads to a longer duration of each treatment’s effect.
What are the risks/side effects?
Bruising and transient headaches can occurr as a result of injecting neuromodulators, although this subsides quickly. In 2% of injections, minor temporary “droop” of your eyelid can occur and last 2-3 weeks. All results are temporary and in a very small number of individuals the injection does not show results at all or for as long as usual.
